Itinerary

Day 1

Dar es Salaam

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Dar Es Salaam airport we will meet and transfer you to your accommodation. Your first night will be spent in a Banda (beach huts with shared facilities) at Kipepeo Campsite There will be a predeparture meeting at 17:00 hours today where you will meet your tour leader.

Days 2-4

Zanzibar

Dar es Salaam - Zanzibar. On the morning of day 2 we transfer by public ferry to the Spice Island of Zanzibar. We'll spend the next 3 nights here with one night spent in Stone Town and two nights on the northern beaches.

Days 5-6

Mikumi & Iringa

Zanzibar - Mikumi - Iringa. Leaving Zanzibar in the morning, we return to the mainland and head west to Mikumi for an overnight stop. The next day we continue our journey west. Our destination today is Iringa where we spend the night in a beautiful rustic campsite famous for its Amarula Hot Chocolates and its steamy showers!

Days 7-9

Lake Malawi

Iringa - Lake Malawi (Malawi). We depart Tanzania and enter Malawi - our home for the next 3 nights. 20% of this country is made up of the famous lake - which will be our back drop for the next 3 days as we slowly travel towards Zambia.

Days 10-11

South Luangwa National Park

Lake Malawi - South Luangwa (Zambia). Heading away from the lake we briefly stop at the capital Lilongwe before crossing into Zambia. From here we travel to the South Luangwa National Park on the Luangwa River for some game driving and 2 nights in the park.

Days 12-13

Livingstone

South Luangwa - Eastern Zambia - Livingstone. Continuing south on day 12 we drive through rural Zambia before stopping for the night near the capital Lusaka. Our final stop in Zambia is Livingstone near the mighty Victoria Falls.

Day 14

Chobe National Park

Livingstone - Chobe (Botswana). Today we cross the border into Botswana and on to the town of Kasane on the Chobe River forming a natural border between Zambia, Namibia and Botswana. This afternoon we enjoy a game drive through Chobe National Park as we make our way to our camp situated within the park.

Day 15

Victoria Falls

Chobe - Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe). This morning we depart Chobe National Park looking for wildlife as we exit. We continue to Kasane before crossing the border into Zimbabwe and back to Victoria Falls - this time on the Zimbabwe side. We enjoy our last day in the adrenaline playground of Africa, where there are optional activities aplenty here including Zambezi white water rafting, bungee jumping from 111m and flights over the Falls in a variety of airborne machines!

Days 16-17

Victoria Falls

We have two days at leisure at Victoria Falls where we can spend relaxing or participating in a myriad of optional excursions including boat cruises and a whole host of adrenalin activities.

Days 18-19

Chobe National Park

Victoria Falls - Kasane. Leaving Vic Falls on this morning we cross back into Botswana and back to the town of Kasane, situated on the banks of the Chobe River. The rest of the afternoon and following morning is at leisure to explore the town, or perhaps enjoy a cruise down the the Chobe River.

Day 20

Maun

Chobe - Maun. Heading out early, we head in a south-westerly direction to the southern reaches of the Okavango Delta and our base, Maun - the starting point for travel into the Delta.

Days 21-22

Okavango Delta

Maun - Okavango Delta - Maun. On day 21 we take the overnight excursion into the Delta. From the poling station we board our mokoros for a couple of hours before we arrive at our mobile tented camp situated in the heart of the Okavango.

On arrival you will meet the local staff who will be your host during your stay. A brief introduction to the camp will show you your dome tent with twin beds and a bush en-suite bathroom – long drop toilet and a bucket shower. Relax in the tent with a cold drink or take a paddle in the Delta in a canoe. The activities at the camp include Mokoro trails and guided walking.

The following morning we pack up and set off back to Maun. After our Mokoro ride and vehicle transfer, we arrive back around lunch time and have the chance to complete our picture of the Okavango Delta by taking an optional scenic flight over The Delta (dependent on weather conditions & availability).

Days 23-24

Ghanzi & Windhoek

Maun - Ghanzi - Windhoek (Namibia). On day 23 we head towards the small village of Ghanzi for our last night in Botswana. Ghanzi is home to the San / Bushman and you can learn more about them by partaking in the Bushman experience offered by the campsite.

On day 24 we cross the border in to Namibia and head to the capital Windhoek for some retail therapy and time to relax at Urban Camp.

Day 25

Etosha National Park

Windhoek - Etosha. From Windhoek, we head to Etosha National Park, Namibia’s premier nature and wildlife reserve.

Days 26-27

Safari in Etosha

On day 26 we make our way 150 km across the park, keeping our eyes peeeled many different mammals, reptiles, birds and insects in the various regions. After a full day of game viewing, we exit the park through Anderson gate and head to our campsite a short drive away. The following day takes us further south through the Namibian countryside to a campsite, located in the vicinity of Etosha National Park.

Day 28

Brandberg

Etosha National Park area - Brandberg. Today we continue south to the area of the Brandberg. All depending on the time of arrival we will have the opportunity to explore the area.

Days 29-30

Swakopmund

Brandberg - Swakopmund. Our destination today is Swakopmund, via Spitzkoppe the ‘Matterhorn of Namibia’. The 1728 m high rock formation, one of Namibia’s most recognised landmarks, is well known as an ancient San sacred site.

Founded by the Germans in 1892 their colonial influence is still evident today. Swakopmund has a selection of excellent coffee shops, restaurants & bars as well as many arts and crafts shops selling Namibian curios. Day 30 is spent relaxing or participating in a myriad of optional excursions which include sky diving, sand boarding, scenic desert flights, dolphin cruises, horse riding and more!

Days 31-32

Sesriem & Sossusvlei Dunes

Swakopmund - Sesriem. Departing Swakopmund, we continue south to Walvis Bay before turning inland and toward the desert. We enter the Namib-Naukluft Park - one of the oldest deserts in the world. A short distance away is Sossusvlei, surrounded by a dramatic sea of sand dunes reputed to be the highest in the world. Magnificent views of the desert can be seen from the top of the dunes, some over 300m high. Our afternoon is spent exploring this amazing area.

Day 33

Fish River Canyon

Sesriem - Fish River Canyon. This morning we watch the sunrise over this beautiful area before heading to Fish River Canyon. At 161 km long, 27 km wide and about 550 m deep, it’s the second largest canyon in the world.

Day 34

Gariep River

Fish River Canyon - Gariep River (South Africa). This morning we continue south, where, after a short drive we reach the natural land border between Namibia and South Africa at the Gariep River (Orange River). We cross the border into South Africa and camp at a beautiful campsite on the bank of the river.

Day 35

Cederberg

Gariep River - Cederberg. Continuing south we pass through the Richtersveld and the mining town of Springbok, before reaching the region known as Namaqualand, well known for its prolific display of Namaqua wildflowers that occur each spring. Our camp ground tonight is a picturesque campsite surrounded by local wine farms. We even have the option to sample some of the nectar of the gods or to explore the surrounding beautiful Cederberg Mountains. Tonight is our last night under the stars!

Day 36

Cape Town

Cederberg - Cape Town. Today is our last drive day and we head towards our final destination Cape Town. Our journey takes us through the rich fruit growing area of Citrusdal before crossing the Piketberg Pass to the Cape’s wine growing regions. Our first sighting of the Mother’s City Table Mountain across Table Bay means we’ve reached our final destination. Tonight’s accommodation is in dormitories at one of Cape Town’s best loved hostels.

Cape Town

Saturday. This morning we exchange addresses and part ways, having just experienced a trip of a lifetime!
