Obtaining Tickets

Our Trans Siberian Railway journeys include the train tickets for whichever route you have decided upon, as part of the package.

Standard of train

All our programmes are based on 2nd class train tickets with 4 berth mixed sex cabins.

Upgrades

If you wish to upgrade to a 2 berth cabin or a party of 3 wishing to exclusively occupy a 4 berth cabin, please contact us for rates and availability. Please note availability is limited with some trains only configured with one 2 berth cabin wagon (containing 18 seats) and on certain routes such as Irkutsk and Ulan Ude, 2 berth cabins are not available. From May - October, all routes are particularly busy, and an upgrade may prove difficult to obtain. On The Go Tours will advise on an individual basis, whether an upgrade will be possible.

Route stops

On a per-kilometre basis, a Trans-Siberian ticket remains one of the most cost-effective ways of getting from A to B. Introducing stops into the equation means instead of buying an express ticket, we have to buy a series of tickets set at appropriate rates by the Russian, Mongolian and Chinese Railways. In addition, an itinerary with built-in stops will inevitably attract more cost based on transfers, accommodation and arrangements appropriate to the itinerary.

Travelling with children

Yes you can travel with children on board the Trans-Siberian Railway. However a Trans-Siberian journey is probably more suitable for those who are older and adept at occupying themselves. On the train, there is little do – so pack loads of activities for them, perhaps include a tablet loaded with a bank of computer games and/or a selection of reading and activities such as magnetic chess or checkers. At stops en-route, those children who have an interest in history, culture and hiking will gain the most out of a trip across Eurasia - the internment of the Romanovs in Yekaterinburg and hiking at Lake Baikal are examples of excursions which would quite possibly appeal most to those in their mid-late teens.

Is it group travel?

No, our Trans-Siberian adventures are NOT group tours. The adventures run as a semi-independent package combining train journeys, stopovers and accommodation (if any) and accompanying ground touring arrangements (if you're stopping and if indicated as an inclusion) booked specifically and exclusively for you.

You will not be travelling as part of a group and will not have a tour leader with you. If stopping en route, you will be met on arrival and transferred to your accommodation.

If you are looking to go on the Trans Siberian Railway, you will need your Trans Siberian Railway tickets to board before you travel. The Trans Siberian Railway is a very popular way of travel within Russia and onward to Mongolia and China so tickets can sell out very quickly. So it is advisable to book your Trans Siberian Railway tickets well in advance. Booking your Trans Siberian Railway tickets as part of our journeys is a much more stress free way of doing it than trying to organise them yourselves.
