Forbidden City & Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square is essentially the heart of Beijing. A patriotic vision of grandeur, Tiananmen Square is a square for the public and home of the mausoleum of Chairman Mao and the striking Monument to the People’s Heroes. Dominating the city centre is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait), we enjoy a guided tour of this old city within a city.

Later, we take a rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing. As our trusty rickshaw driver peddles us through the network of alleys and old back lanes, we gain a fascinating snapshot of the city’s traditional way of life. After a break for lunch we travel to the Pearl Market - an Aladdin's Cave of souvenirs, handbags and gadgets for a spot of shopping.

Tonight, after a traditional dinner we attend a Chinese acrobatic performance.

We also visit a workshop where warrior figurines are made. Lastly today, we will head to the vibrant Muslim Quarter, where free time is offered to independently explore.

Sabrena was a wonderful guide! She helped so much with the language and logistics of our travels in China. I don't think we could have possibly managed without her.

All the local guides were very helpful also.

I would highly recommend this tour.

We have loved our "on the go tour". It has been just right for our family in all aspects. I especially want to comment on Feng-out tour guide. She has been most professional, caring, friendly and has gone out of her way to make sure our tour has been fantastic for both adults and children.

The itinerary organised by on the go was very good, but with an excellent guide it comes alive. Feng, our guide was fantastic. Benny in Xian was also very good. This type of tour as organised by on the go is a good concept.

A great experience coming to China. Our tour guide, Feng, provided a lot of useful information: Historic about the sites & Cultural about the people of China and the development over the recent years. There was nothing that was too much trouble for her. Feng is an excellent guide, she made our family feel safe and secure.
