An enchanting city with a rich and fascinating history, St Petersburg is the Jewel in Russia’s Imperial Crown. It was from here that the aristocrat tsars ruled over Russia for two centuries until the Russian Revolution in 1917. First thing this morning we will visit Peter and Paul Fortress, which was once used as a political prison housing the likes of Dostoevsky and Lenin’s older brother, Alexander. Here you will also find the SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, the final resting place of the Romanov family.

Situated on the banks of the River Neva and partly housed in the breathtaking Winter Palace, is the world famous Hermitage collection - one of the world's largest art collections. The collection offers a broad range of exhibits including Asian and European art, prehistoric art and the awe inspiring treasury collection. There are also countless works from the Masters such as Van Gogh, Picasso and Matisse. This afternoon enjoy a guided tour of the Hermitage, where you will be taken to see the highlights of this incredible collection.
